Known as the original skate shoe, Vans was founded on March 16, 1966 in the city of Anaheim, California when Paul Van Doren along with 3 partners opened up their first store. The Van Doren Rubber Company was unique in that it manufactured shoes and sold them directly to the public. On their first morning, 12 customers purchased Vans deck shoes — now famously known as the Authentic. The classic skate brand dynamically grew throughout the 70's and 80's and has helped the sport of skateboarding conquer the world.
Immediately upon its release in 1979, Style 98 was embraced by BMX riders and skaters, particularly in Southern California. Its status as a symbol of rebellion, independence and youth was solidified in the years following, as it became a footwear staple in fashion, music and film.
