On March 26th, 1987, Nike debuted the Air Max 1 and the world of athletic footwear was never quite the same again, as Visible Air became the new gold standard by which design and technology was measured. Each year, to celebrate this momentous occasion, Nike celebrates the introduction of the Air Max 1 with a slate of special releases.
With 2020 marking the 30th anniversary of the iconic Air Max 90, this year's releases pay special attention to a design that not only lived up to the unenviable task of succeeding the Air Max 1, but claimed a position of prominence right beside it in the imaginations of sneaker enthusiasts everywhere.
Time flies especially quickly in fashion, but it's still hard to believe that it's already been seven years since pioneering Tokyo retail institution Atmos released their duck camouflage patterned Air Max 90. An instant cult favorite, and one that predated the widespread, global availability of the hottest releases at that. Nike celebrates this coveted design with the Air Max Duck Camo pack. The classic Air Max 90 silhouette features an inversion of the original Atmos colorway, as a high visibility orange mesh upper is outfitted with camouflage leather overlays and black accent details. The futuristic Air Max 2090 silhouette takes a more tactical approach to the camo pattern, more in line with the ultra modern aesthetic. A tonal black design featuring high-vis orange accents features a translucent upper layer, from which the iconic pattern peeks out from.
