Throughout its history, the iconic Dr. Martens 1460 boot has been a subculture staple, and by “a subculture,” we really mean “every subculture.” With 2020 marking the 60thanniversary of the 1460, a series of collaborative special editions with some of the brightest names in contemporary streetwear has dropped throughout the year. The latest entry offers an expansive view of the 1460’s history, and its capacity for continued reinvention, as cult favorite label Medicom Toy put their unique spin on the 1460.
Medicom Toy are most famous for their highly coveted, highly collectable BE@RBRICK figures, making their foray into footwear design a truly rare and special take on the 1460. The familiar black leather upper features a debossed, all-over BE@RBRICK pattern, with fleecy lining, laces, @ logo stamps at the ankles and@ stamped lace jewels providing additional, one-of-a-kind details with a connection to the brand’s famous figures.
Speaking of the famous BE@RBRICK bears, they comprise the second component of this anniversary capsule. Six bespoke designs, each featuring the trappings of a different alternative subculture, celebrate a different decade of Dr. Martens history.
