Factory work boots and a cushioned sole developed by a medical doctor recuperating from a broken foot seem like an incredibly unlikely starting point for footwear that would become a staple of cutting-edge youth culture.
But why would a shoe synonymous with innavidualistic style have a story about doing things the usual way? After widespread adoption by subcultures in 1960s England unlocked the fashion potential of their humble work boots, the genie was well and truly out of the bottle and the genre-hopping style of Dr. Martens was born.
The 939 6-eye boot is one of the oldest Dr. Martens designs —coming off the production line in the early 1960s in bold colors. This updated version is rebuilt for a new generation in textured Long Napped suede with a padded collar for enhanced comfort. Fitted with antique gold trims and 3-colour hiker laces. The boot stands on an extra rugged BEN outsole secured with signature DM’s yellow welt stitching.
